~ Employment Opportunities ~

Lilley Press is accepting applications for the following positions:

Content Editor
Content editors work directly with the authors to help make their novels the best they can be. Content editors need a good sense of story and what makes good writing, have an extensive vocabulary, and know how to conduct research to check facts. They should also have a good foundation in the technical aspects of writing: grammar, punctuation, and so on. All content editors are required to have MS Word or a word processing software that includes a Track Changes and Comments option that can be read by MS Word 2000. While Lilley Press does not require editing experience, some experience or education in writing or English is preferred.

Line Editor
Line editors work with content editors on the technical aspects of a manuscript and need to know correct punctuation and grammar in particular, and need to have a sharp eye for detail. As with content editors, line editors are required to have MS Word or a word processing software that includes a Track Changes and Comments option that can be read by MS Word 2000. Some editing experience or education in writing or English is preferred.

Any applicants not following these guidelines will not be considered for employment. All prospective editors are required to pass a 2 part editing test. A grammar, punctuation, and word choices test and a content editing test. Lilley Press uses the Chicago Manual of Style.

Payment
Please note, Lilley Press pays royalties instead of a per word or flat rate. The first novel is considered a training novel and paid at half the usual rate.

Other Information
While we accept applications year round, we do not expect any new hires until Fall 2008 at the earliest. Any applicant who passes both tests will be kept on file until openings are available. Applicants will be contacted in the order in which they passed the tests and offered employment at that time.
